TIPS AND TRICKS
“Green cleaning” is certainly not a new trend. Companies have been rolling out greener version of their products for a few years now, and a huge segment of the blogosphere and Pinterest are comprised of green cleaning DIYs and why making the switch from traditional cleaners to more environmentally friendly options is worth the hassle.
At Here, we pride ourselves on developing and using cleaning methods that are safe and effective for cleaning your home without using unnecessary harsh chemicals. We wanted to share with you some tips for green cleaning your home, as well as what you can do for the bigger cleaning projects like your home or office carpets!
What makes a cleaner “green?”
Traditional cleaners contain a long list of chemicals and additives that are touted as “powerful” and “effective” ways to clean even your home’s toughest stain, but at what cost? Ingredients like ammonia, phthalates, triclosan, and 2-butoxyethanol are all common components of household cleaners, yet all come with their own list of potentially harmful side effects.
Green cleaners kick these chemicals to the curb and utilize more natural ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, essential oils, and other things commonly found in your home. These greener options for cleaning your home often perform as well as, if not better than, their traditional cleaner counterparts, and you will immediately notice a lack of stifling odors and sometimes harsh skin irritation
Fall is here (believe it or not!) and that means cooler temperatures, our favorite pumpkin flavored things, and looking forward to the coming holidays. Leaving behind the scorching heat, bugs, and humidity might make you think you’re about to be in the all-clear for allergies and irritants. Not so! Here are some things you need to continue to guard yourself, your family, and your home against this fall.
Keep the Outdoors OUT
Even though the weather is changing, some allergens continue to pose a threat to you well into fall. If you’re especially prone to severe allergic reactions to things like ragweed pollen, limit your time outdoors. Keep all clothes and shoes clean and laundered regularly to eliminate the risk of pollen making its way inside. Vacuum and clean your ducts and furnace on a regular basis, as foot traffic can not only introduce allergens into your home but also carry them throughout.
Give Your Lungs a Fighting Chance
Not all allergens are something we can easily see and avoid. There are irritants like dust mites that can build up in your home without you knowing, until it’s too late. Kicking off the fall season with a home-wide air duct cleaning will not only clean your dust mite slate, it will also freshen your home’s air and give respiratory allergy suffers a break from wheezing and coughing.
While the process isn’t always fun, having a clean house is one of the most rewarding and relaxing feelings in the world. We all have our “tips and tricks” for getting each room of our home looking and smelling like new. There is a chance, though, that you may be going about cleaning your home the wrong way. Here are some new and correct tips and tricks to add to your house cleaning arsenal.
Living Areas
Living room, family room, den – whatever you call it, the room(s) of your house where everyone comes to hang out and unwind are often the biggest sources of clutter and mess in our homes. Daily pick up and tidying are key to keeping these areas inviting, but don’t stop there. Vacuuming regularly will keep crumbs and dirt under control (and from spreading to other parts of your home), but make sure you do your vauuming last. All dusting should be done before you turn on the Hoover. (Don’t forget to give your curtains a once-over every week or so, too!)
Don’t stop at clearing off the visible mess on your furniture. Getting on a regular cleaning schedule with your upholstered furniture will keep it looking new, get rid of any unsightly stains and odors, and keep everyone as comfortable as possible.
